Ensenada 5-3-11-WFO Barries & Rockfish

With the Santa Ana’s scheduled to back down myself, girlfriend Pati and her 2 kids Jesus (Chuy) and Jennie decided to go fishing. We left our slip at Cruiseport Village around 7am and headed north. We saw a couple of pangas working just outside of the Las Rosas Hotel so we stopped and caught some nice barracuda on the iron. I was using Magic Metal jigs all day and it was pretty much a fish a cast for me. Pati and the kids were using heavier 6x jigs and did well. After catching a few for sushi we decided to head to a shallow water reef off Salsipuedes and try and find some rockfish. On the way out just off Punta San Miguel there were birds diving so we stopped and caught some nicer sized barries again at almost a fish a cast. After leaving them biting we continued north and put out some rapalas out and trolled all the while hoping to run into some yellows. Water temps dipped to 56 degrees so we pulled them in and headed to the reef. After resetting the drift a couple of times we started catching a variety of rockfish along with 1 ling cod. With the current and wind picking up we started to clean fish and clean up and drifted towards shore. After trying a long drift along some nice looking kelp stringers for nada it was time to head back to the marina. As we were headed in we saw birds working just outside Las Rosas so we decided to check it out. I was hoping for a white sea bass but all we could manage were more of the same. It’s time for this water to warm up so we can get a consistent yellowtail and tuna bite bite going because I am all barracudad out!

Big Lou your killing me with the rock fish reports!!!! Go throw some plastics at those calico's and sand bass. I know there is plenty of them there last time the kid and I were there we threw many of them back. They should be a lot bigger by now. Heck you might even catch that mystery fish that schooled me last time I was on your rig. Well brother keep up the great work and thanks again for sharing the fishing reports from your backyard. ARATO VATO.
