The tournament is great. The only thing is that it's a three day commitment for out of town guys (Friday-captain's meeting: Saturday-Fishing: Sunday-Banquet). That's a lot of days for guys to take off if your from out of town (anyone out of SD). I talked to Jason and understand the reason why BD does it this way. Just too much time off work to take off, to fish 1 day (yes I know I have the chance to win $$$$$). And yes I know most people have the weekends off.

That being said, I'll still be signing up for the Offshore Tourney.

We are listening.

We have so much more we want to do with the tourneys, but it takes more teams.

We don't do these for profit (because there is none) we do them for fun.

Anything else we can do to make these bigger or more fun, we are all ears.

I would say cost kept me from entering. Entry fee, side jackpots, gas up the boat, etc., pretty soon you are close to $1k for a team.

Have you ever looked into a Grand Sponsor of the tournament? I do that a lot when setting up charity events and insurance industry events. Different levels of sponsorship help raise coin. Some large companies may be interested in being a grand sponsor. That way you might be able to keep the entry fee's lower and get more attendance.

All that money was the first to go when the industry took a nose dive 3 years ago.

I figured the economy may have something to do with it. Maybe I could talk to some boat insurance companies for next years tourney. What does a grand sponsorship go for?

I know...I know....just get a lot of cash right?

Yes, I know the team that won this year has been a top performer more than once now but overtime that may not be the case just because of blind stupid luck.
My suggestion, keep all costs the same but biggest 5 fish total wins the tournament and the jackpots are for the biggest fish. That way, the skilled anglers will most likely be rewarded with at least some winnings (if not all). Just my 2cents...
