Freshwater anglers at Sycamore Island park will soon have a new quarry to chase. California DFG officials will stock rainbow trout there starting this month.

The California Department of Fish and Game voted not to pursue a proposal that would have changed sport fishing regulations related to striped bass, including increasing bag limits and decreasing size limits.

Officials continue efforts to reestablish coho salmon populations in California. Several creeks were recently stocked with fish that are ready to spawn.

With catch-and-release anglers in mind, the International Game Fish Association decided to add an all-release category.

Unlike typical world records, where a fish must be caught and weighed on land, this new category is based on length rather than weight. IGFA's All-Tackle Length category will include 60 freshwater and 67 saltwater species for new world records while requiring the fish to be returned to the water alive after measurement. With 127 new world-record vacancies available at the beginning of 2011, the IGFA's World Records office has already received a flurry of competition for these records.
